California Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Surrounded by a large grassy area, next to the Rose garden in the northeast corner of the State Capitol grounds is California's memorial to our Vietnam Veterans. Here is an excellent place to review the blessings of America and some of the cost of maintaining a philosophy that seems to be uniquely American. Visitors from other
countries may also be reminded of the many, unselfish contributions American men and women have made in the continuing effort to help others escape the grips of
tyranny.

Delta King
In the late 1920's, two large, luxurious paddle-wheel steamers (the Delta
King and the Delta Queen) navigated the Sacramento River carrying up to 200
passengers between Sacramento and San Francisco. Both were retired and the
Delta King was refurbished as an upscale restaurant and hotel. It is now
permanently moored
at 1000 Front St in Historic Old Sacramento. For more

Governor's Mansion
Residence of California's governors from 1903 to 1967, last occupied by Ronald Reagan. This stately, 30-room, Victorian mansion is filled with historic furnishings donated by the governors and their families. Tours on the hour; guides recite stories of the 13 California governors and their families who lived here.

Old Sacramento
Here is a living museum; a glimpse of Sacramento as it in the time of the 19th Century gold prospectors. This is a most enjoyable way to sample history, view museums, visit some very interesting shops and enjoy a pleasant repast in one of the several delightful restaurants. And there's entertainment, horse-drawn carriages, and boat rides, too!

Port of (West) Sacramento
The result of the dredging by the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers of a 43 mile channel, plus a lot of fund-raising by thousands of concerned citizens, Sacramento officially became a deep water port and opened for business as the Port of Sacramento 29 June 1963. It was a long, hard struggle, delayed by many political speed bumps, but the pay-off in its contribution to the area has been significant. State Capitol
In the center of Sacramento, bounded by 10th, 15th, L and N Streets, is California's unique contribution fo State Capitol architecture. Possibly its most famous feature, the giant glass dome, rises a good 210 feet above
ground level. Guided tours, lasting about one hour, are regularly available during the summer and by appointment the rest of the year.
